How to Play Blackjack
There are several variations of blackjack, from Atlantic Cty rules, European rules and single and multi hand variations. We shall concentrate on a regular blackjack game.
The aim of the game is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over it. You can have as many cards as you want dealt to you. But if you go over 21 in total. Your hand will bust and you will lose the hand. As with all blackjack games. Ace is either 1 or 11 and all picture cards are 10. All other cards are their intrinsic face value. Meaning: 2 of spades is 2, 7 of diamonds is 7, etc.
You start the game by wagering an amount on your hand. Place chips on the cloth and the dealer will deal your first and his first card face up so you can see them. Based on the 2 cards showing, you are then given a choice of 2 things. You can take a free card "twist". Or place another wager equal to the one you placed originally in the hope of making a good hand with your second card.
People often pay for a second card when they have 9 or 10 dealt to them, and the dealer is showing a weak first card like a 4 or 5. It is a way to maximize winnings. It basically allows them to double the bet.
Second Card
One thing you should note. If you buy a second card to maximize your chances of winning a big amount. You forfeit the right to take any more cards after it. So if your first card was a 10, and your second was a 2. You are stuck on 12. And the banker will play out his hand accordingly, to detrmine a result.
If you did not pay for your second card. you can either Stand or take another free card. You can take as many free cards as you want or need too get you as close to 21 as possible. But remember if you go over 21, you bust and lose. There is also another rule here. Which some casinos do and some do not allow. If you twist 3 times and have 5 cards in your hand all adding up to 21 or less. That is usually a guaranteed win. And is called a 5 card trick. Check with the casino game rules before you begin playing at whichever casino you decide to play at.
Basic Blackjack Rules

- Surrender: giving up your hand and lose only half the bet.
- Insurance is when you pay half your initial bet. To ensure against the dealer having Blackjack. If he has an Ace as a starting card.
- Go over 21 and you bust your hand and lose.
